Frequently Asked Question

How many sessions of the 4D Facelift will I need?

In order to achieve the best results from the 4D Facelift you will be required to commit to 1 session for every decade of your life.

eg: if your are 30, you need 3 sessions.

What is the down time for the 4D Face lift?

There is no down time  after this treatment.

After 3 days you may see some dustiness of skin as the skin cells shed off.

Can the Fotona Laser be used on all skin types?

The Fotona  laser is safe for all skin  types, all treatments are safe for Fitzpatrick 1-6.

We reassure you that you will have a safe laser treatment.

How often can you get a Hydrafacial?

We suggest that most clients receive a Hydrafacial every 4 weeks for best skin health.

However, if you are an acne client we suggest you get a Hydrafacial every 2 weeks.

How is Cryolipolysis in your office different from coolsculpting?

Our Cryolipolysis machine freezes and permanently destroys the fat in the targeted area.

Afterwards  we  continue with a special technique which involves breaking down the frozen fat cells using a radio frequency hand piece.

Further more, we dissolve the broken down fat using the cavitation hand piece.

Both of these technologies use heat to dissolve the fat cells that have been frozen in the first step with our Cryolipolysis machine.

Once your treatment is done your lymphatic system will excrete them out of your body for a SLIMMER NEW you!

How many sessions of Cryolipolysis do will I need?

We recommend a minimum of 3 sessions depending on how many inches you are planning to loose.

Each session can be done every 2-4 weeks.

What is HIFEM Technology

HIFEM® stands for high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology.   HIFEM uses a powerful but harmless form of electromagnetic stimulation to contract the muscles in a targeted area. These magnetic fields create electrical currents, which are passed to the muscles. These magnetic pulses   force the muscles to contract, much like they do during  exercise.   Therefore, when the muscles contract enough times, they begin to build muscles and burn fat.

How many HIFEM session will I need?

We suggest a minimum of 3 sessions, depending on your goals.

Each session can be done every 2-4 weeks.

EvexiPEL Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

What is EvexiPEL?

EvexiPEL is a Bio-Identical form of hormone therapy that seeks to return the hormone balance to optimized levels in women and men.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for pellets?

Symptoms may vary widely from fatigue, lack of energy, depression, anxiety, night sweat, joint pain sleeplessness, etc. for example. We will begin with a Symptom Check List and a lab slip to have blood work done which will determine your hormone levels. Once your doctor reviews and determines whether you are a candidate, we will schedule an appointment for a consultation and insertion.

Do I have blood work done before each treatment?

No, only initially and 4 to 6 weeks after initial treatment to set your dosing. You may have it done again if there are significant changes to your weight, lifestyle, etc. Also, a full lab is suggested annually.

What are the pellets made from?

They are plant based (Wild Yams, etc.) The pellets are derived from yams and are bio-identical, meaning they are the exact replication of what the body makes in contrast to synthetic hormones.

How long will the treatment last?

For 3-6 months, depending on the person. Everyone is different so it depends on how you feel and what the Dr. determines is right for you. Absorption rate is based on cardiac output.

Is the therapy FDA approved?

The ingredients in the pellets are all FDA approved. The distribution of the pellet is FDA regulated. The procedure is not FDA approved, based on individualized dosing. Everyday physicians prescribe off-label non-FDA approved products and therapies that they deem safe and effective for the patients? Compounded drugs are not FDA approved because they are individualized doses. There is no FDA approval on a bio‐identical drug.

Also, consider the side effects of drugs (half of the TV commercial is listing the potential side effects) and those drugs ARE FDA approved!

How are they administered?

Your practitioner will implant the pellets in the dermas of the upper hip or above the belt. A small incision is made, and the pellets are inserted. No stitch is required.

Does it matter if I’m on birth control?

No, your physician can determine what your hormone needs are even if you are on birth control.

Are there any side effects?

There are no serious side effects. Some possible nuisance side effects, hair growth or acne in moderation. Both are very treatable.

What if I’m already on HRT of some sort like creams, patches, pills?

This is an easy transition. Your physician will be able to determine your needs even though you may be currently taking these other forms of HRT. We also supply these other modalities if your patients prefer.

What if I’ve had breast cancer?

Breast cancer survivors and/or those who have a history of breast cancer in their family may still be a candidate; however, this is to be determined by the physician. You should schedule a consultation with your physician. Bio-Identical Hormones have never been shown to cause an increased risk in breast cancer.

Soprano ICE Platinum by Alma (At Chi Aesthetics MedSpa, we are so happy to bring you the latest ground-breaking technology in laser hair removal!)

What is Soprano ICE Platinum?

The Alma Soprano ICE Platinum is authorized as the safest and most advanced laser hair removal technology, equipped with revolutionary features that make treatments for hair removal and pigmented lesions faster, effective, and more comfortable.

Is Soprano ICE Platinum effective?

The Platinum edition combines 3 laser wavelengths into a single innovative handpiece, simultaneously targeting different tissue depths as well as anatomical structures within the hair follicle. By combining the absorption and penetration levels of three different wavelengths, along with the treatment coverage, comfort and low maintenance of the diode laser, Soprano ICE Platinum achieves the safest and most comprehensive hair removal treatment available today.

How many sessions do I need?

For the best results, the Soprano ICE treatments need at least 6 – 8 sessions for permanent hair removal. However, this can vary depending on you as everyone’s hair grows at different rates. Factors such as age and hormones can also affect your hair growth rate. As well as the area being treated as the size and density of hair also affects how many sessions are needed to effectively remove unwanted body hair.
The key to successful laser hair removal is treating hair when it’s in the right cycle. About 10-25% of the body’s hair is in the Anagen stage, so multiple sessions are necessary. Waiting longer than 5 to 6 weeks risks missing a growth cycle and can cause the hair to grow back sooner as a result.
• Anagen – The growing phase where the hair is at its most active and visible above the surface of the skin. Due to this visibility, the laser works best when targeting hair within this cycle.
• Catagen – The transition phase where the hair stops actively growing towards its next stage.
• Telogen – The dormant stage where the hair sheds and the hair follicle becomes dormant. Before it prepares to start the cycle again with new hair growth.

What should I expect after my session? Is there any downtime or side effects?

It is possible that you may experience some mild irritation, itching and redness of the skin, and the hair follicles treated may be raised for up to 48 hours. This is normal.

Will my hair come back?

Once the full treatment is complete, some hair will never grow back. However, some hair may need intermittent treatment every year or so, depending on your hair regrowth. Any hair that does grow back will be finer and grow slower than before your laser treatment. These hairs can be successfully retargeted again. Maintenance sessions every 6 months to a year are recommended.

Does it work on blonde hair?

The Alexandrite wavelength offers more powerful energy absorption by the melanin chromophore, making it ideal for the widest range of hair types and color- especially light-colored and thin hair. With more superficial penetration, the 755nm wavelength targets the Bulge of the hair follicle and is especially effective for superficially embedded hair in areas such as the eyebrows and upper lip.

Does it hurt?

The discomfort you experience during this process will vary based on your pain tolerance and the treatment location, however, most patients report a relatively pain-free experience! The Soprano ICE uses a controlled cooling tip to prevent any damage to your skin and to keep you comfortable.

Why should I choose laser hair removal?

It can be done on all skin tones: At Chi Aesthetics MedSpa & Wellness Center, we choose technology whose versatility and customizability gives us a broad palette to treat, with the highest standards of safety and efficacy. The ability to customize the laser settings allows us to treat all skin tones safely.

It’s an easy & fast treatment: Laser hair removal typically doesn’t require much of your time, so you can easily be in and out of the office. It also doesn’t require numbing cream, so it makes the process much more comfortable.

It will save you money in the long run: You will no longer have to spend money regularly on waxing treatments, razors or shaving products, resulting in significant savings. By investing in multiple packages, you can quickly reduce your hair growth and will no longer have to spend hours on shaving, plucking, tweezing, or waxing.

Ditch the razor- it’s better than the environment: Did you know that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that nearly 2 BILLION razors are tossed out each year? Razors also cannot be recycled, so they are one of the most wasteful ways to reduce hair growth. Luckily, you do have a better option.

The results will leave you feeling more confident: In a few sessions, you will notice a significant reduction, or even cessation, of hair growth. Yes— new growth may occur over time due to age, natural processes, hormone fluctuations, and other factors. Maintenance sessions can be used to treat any stray hair growth and restore the patient’s original results.

To get a better understanding of how many sessions you will need, you can schedule a consultation with us at our office. We can assess the area that you would like to be treated and recommend the appropriate treatment plan for you.

How PCOS affects the skin

What is PCOS?

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects the pituitary gland and triggers a hormonal imbalance. This causes ovaries to become enlarged, with small cysts on the outer edges. Although the cause of polycystic ovary syndrome isn't well understood, it may involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. There have been studies on the links between thyroid issues and PTSD with PCOS. Some cases of PCOS are more severe than others. Lifestyle changes, such as diet and regular changes, can help reduce your symptoms.

What are the symptoms of PCOS?

• oily skin
• cystic acne (usually appears on the cheeks or lower half of the face)
• excessive hair growth (hirsutism) on the body (chest, back, stomach)
• irregular and/or painful menstrual cycles
• depression or mood swings
• high cholesterol
• male-pattern hair loss on the head
• unexplained weight gain
• infertility

How does PCOS acne occur?

An error in the pituitary gland triggers a hormone imbalance ➡️ High levels of testosterone and DHEA are produced ➡️ Excess androgens overstimulate hair follicles in skin ➡️ Too much sebum production clogs the skin’s pores ➡️ Bacteria begins to grow among clogged pores. ➡️ Skin surface becomes inflamed. ➡️ Results in cystic (and most times, painful) acne.

How do I know if I have PCOS?

Although your esthetician can’t diagnose you, consulting with your gynecologist can help you find out if you have this condition. A gynecologist will perform an ultrasound on your ovaries to check for small cysts on the outer edges.

So, my GYN told me I have PCOS. What do I do now?

Medications, such as Spironolactone or Metformin, have been proven to be effective for women with PCOS because it works by blocking the effects of excess androgens. Androgens are hormones that both males and females have, but males have higher levels of them. Androgens are responsible for hair growth on the face, chest, and stomach that some young women with PCOS experience. Androgens can also cause acne. However, you should ALWAYS consult your doctor before taking ANY medication.

Will Accutane help my PCOS acne?

Underlying medical factors should always be considered before starting the Accutane treatment. For example, abnormal hormone production or other medical conditions can have an impact on the success and duration of one’s response to Accutane. The short answer is yes, and no. Accutane may help resolve acne temporarily, but once your body has absorbed it and it has worn off, your acne may come back. Remember- there is a hormone imbalance in your body that can/t be cured with Accutane by itself.

What foods can help me reduce my symptoms?

Anti-inflammatory diets have been proven to help women with PCOS.
• High fiber foods: Seeds (chia, flax, sunflower seeds), legumes (black beans, lentils, chickpeas), berries (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries), and whole grains (bulgur, quinoa, brown rice, whole oats).
• Lean protein: Fish (salmon, shrimp, tuna, cod), lean poultry (skinless chicken and turkey), and plant protein sources (beans, peas, tofu, tempeh).
• Antioxidant-heavy foods: Fruits (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries ), vegetables (spinach, artichokes, kale), whole grains (whole oats, whole wheat, quinoa, brown rice) and unsaturated fats (nuts like pecans, nut butters, olive oil, avocado).
• Organic whole soy: Miso, edamame, tempeh
• Foods compliant with the Mediterranean diet: All fruits and vegetables, seafood (shrimp, salmon, tuna, sea bass), whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, couscous), healthy fats (olive oil, plain, unsalted nuts, avocado).
Be sure to limit refined carbs, sugary drinks, sugary, processed foods, saturated and trans fats, dairy and alcohol. These trigger inflammation in the body and can worsen your symptoms.

How can I manage my PCOS acne?

Regular monthly facials and a customized skin care routine can help you treat skin issues resulted from PCOS acne, and help you prevent further damage to the skin barrier. Laser hair removal or electrolysis can help you reduce hair growth on the face or body.

Chi Aesthetics MedSpa & Wellness Center offers EvexiPEL, a Bio-Identical form of hormone therapy that seeks to return the hormone balance to optimized levels in women and men. We can begin with a Symptom Check List and a lab slip to have blood work done which will determine your hormone levels. Once your doctor reviews and determines whether you are a candidate, we can schedule an appointment for a consultation and insertion.

Opus Plasma® Fractional Radiofrequency Treatment by Alma

What is Opus Plasma®, and what happens during treatment?

Opus is a Hybrid RF + Plasma device. It uses RF energy to penetrate the dermal layer, stimulating fibroblast activity. Fibroblasts control the formation of new collagen and elastin in the skin, creating a tightening and thickening effect. At the same time, the specialized tip on the Opus causes the RF energy to react with Nitrogen in the air, creating a plasma spark. The fractionated plasma sparks create a small, controlled injury on the skin and forces a wound healing response. RF delivery to dermal layer bulk heats and creates coagulation (thickening and tightening). The result is smoothing and brightening of the epidermal layer of skin.

Who can receive this treatment?

All skin types are treatable, but the treatment settings and number of treatments will vary. Darker skin types may benefit from Hydroquinone 4%.

What skin concerns can Opus Plasma® treat?

Opus Plasma® can help reduce hyperpigmentation and both tightens and repairs the skin to correct many other skin conditions. Plasma energy is very effective at improving fine lines and wrinkles, dullness, enlarged pores, broken blood vessels, skin laxity, acne scars, stretch marks, and uneven texture.

How often do I need to get Opus Plasma® done?

Multiple sessions are recommended, treating at one-month intervals to begin, then moving into maintenance (typically 2-3 sessions annually). More heavily degraded skin will require more treatments.

Is Opus Plasma® safe?

This technology is FDA-approved and is the first skin resurfacing system that uses fractional plasma, an ionized gas that brings heat to the skin in a controlled form. Opus Plasma® uses radio frequency-charged metal pins that make fractional traumas to targeted areas of the skin. It is safe for all skin types, even dark skin. Some skin resurfacing treatments carry a risk of hypo or hyperpigmentation for deeper skin tones, but Opus Plasma has been cleared for Fitzpatrick types I through V.

Does Opus Plasma® hurt?

Your provider will apply a topical numbing cream to the area that is being treated and allow it to sit for about 20 to 30 minutes to minimize discomfort. Opus Plasma® typically does not hurt with proper numbing. It has been reported that patients feel a warm sensation during their treatment.

What should I expect post-treatment?

Healing time can range from 24-48 hours to up to a week depending on the settings used. Mild redness may extend past 1 week, but not expected.

How long will it take to see results, and how long does it last?

Fractionated plasma ablates or removes old, damaged tissue causing new tissue to form. This new tissue will be smoother and brighter. Resurfacing results can be seen in 2 weeks, but thickening and tightening will require multiple sessions and best results will be seen 90 days post treatment. Results are permanent, but as the skin is always breaking down maintenance will more than likely be required.

Secret RF Microneedling

WHAT IS SECRET?

Secret RF is a novel approach to delivering fractional radio frequency (RF) energy to all layers of the skin with minimal damage to the skin’s surface. The multi-layered treatment is tailored to each individual and addresses their unique skin concern during
each customized treatment.

WHAT SKIN CONDITIONS DOES IT TREAT?

The Secret RF treatment is ideal for improving aging skin, photodamage, fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck, scars, acne scars, skin quality, and striae (stretch marks). The treatment is safe, effective, and suitable for all skin types and patients seeking skin revitalization.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Secret RF uses microneedles to deliver radio frequency energy into varying levels of the skin including the deeper layers where treatment is most beneficial. Unlike other devices which only deposit energy in upper layer of the skin, Secret RF delivers RF energy below the surface where it’s needed most to help revitalize and regenerate the tissue. This unique delivery of energy allows us to achieve optimal results with little to no downtime on all skin types.

WHAT IS THE SECRET RF PROCEDURE LIKE?

Secret RF is an easy, safe, and effective procedure that can be performed in a quick, 15-minute treatment session. During the treatment, you will feel slight heating and some pressure on the treatment area. For most patients, the treatment is tolerable but your physician will work with you to maximize your comfort level. Prior to the procedure, your provider will apply a numbing cream to the treatment area to increase comfort during the treatment.

HOW MANY SECRET RF TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

To achieve optimal results, patients typically need 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Most patients report improvement after the second treatment however results are optimized 3 months after the last treatment.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT LAST?

Results vary based on the individual. To maintain results, maintenance treatments are recommended every 12-18 months

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

After the treatment, an ointment will be applied to the skin and you will be asked to refrain from wearing makeup for several hours. Any minor redness or swelling resulting from treatment will subside within 12-24 hours. After the treatment, you can expect to return to normal activities

Microneedling on the Face with PRP or PRF

How many Treatments do you need?

Three treatment sessions are generally recommended, spaced 4 - 6 weeks apart, to achieve the best outcome, but treatments are customized according to each patient’s needs and response. Since PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood, adverse reactions to the PRP are essentially nonexistent. The procedure takes about an hour. There is soreness from the inflammatory process for a day or 2 with associated swelling. Results will take about 3 months to fully appreciate.

How is PRP or PRF created?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Platelet-rich Fibrin (PRF) are created by using the patient’s own blood. The blood is separated into packed red blood cells and platelet-rich plasma/Fibrin.

PRP contains a high concentration of platelets and growth factors that when released, can stimulate stem cells in the skin. The activated serum behaves in the same manner as when the body suffers an actual injury. The injected PRP stimulates the healing process by releasing growth factors that trick the skin into thinking that an injury has occurred, and that new skin needs to form.

PRF treatment is an all natural solution used to improve some of the most difficult areas of the face that show aging.  The under-eye area, often called “tear trough,” is a challenging area of thin skin to treat that requires an experienced injector.  Susan Lynch loves utilizing PRF treatments to brighten and smooth this sagging, under-eye hallowing that occurs with age.  When injected as an under eye filler, PRF is an all natural way to improve under eye pigmentation & tone, it also enhances skin firmness, texture and thickness.

Platelet Rich Fibrin is the second generation to Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and involves the use of your body’s own platelets.  Your treatment begins with a blood draw, then it’s spun in a centrifuge to separate out the PRF.  This Platelet Rich Fibrin contains very high concentrations of white blood cells, fibrin, and a small amount of stem cells found circulating in our bloodstreams.  The platelets attach to the fibrin network and release growth factors responsible for creating new skin cells, collagen, and blood vessels.  Once introduced back into the body, this cascade of healing and revitalization begins.   Please schedule a consultation and we can determine if the PRF under eye treatment would be beneficial.
